About this work
“Warm Light” is a still life painted from life. At the centre of the composition is a protea, surrounded by flowers and by flowing lines that recall the grain of wood. Together they create a calm, whole space filled with soft light.
Here the protea becomes a symbol of strength and inner resilience, while the flowers around it are small accents of life, beauty and support.
A special detail of this work is the vase, which the artist made by hand at a workshop. The meeting of a handmade form with living flowers gives the painting a personal character: the made meets the natural, the constant meets what changes from day to day.
